Slowly I think I beginning to win with the weeding. This year there is large quantities of annual rose-bay willow herb but not much hairy bitter cress. I have to be very careful to remove endless bramble seedlings before they take over, they grow alarmingly quickly. If I ever abandoned the garden would soon become covered in brambles. Some days have been too warm to work in the polytunnel so I am able to keep weeding in between serving customers.
Although I have had some down times during the long wet winter and spring it seems that on the whole the plants have responded incredibly well. Almost everything is looking good, there’s plenty of fresh growth and flowers are plentiful. Even the forget-me-nots have stayed looking fresh for weeks and its only in the last couple of days that I have started to remove them. Roses are just starting to come into flower. Agnes, a rugosa, is flowering now and has the most delicious scent. There are now two in the garden, one I’m proud to say I grew from a cutting. Unfortunately none of the rose cuttings I took last autumn have rooted. We could now do with abit of rain but please not another summer like last year.
