Well, I say, a hot day and more to come they say. Can we cope? I must admit that I soon wilt in this sort of heat and it gets difficult to do anything very much except the inevitable watering. Years ago I would soak it up as you do when you’re younger, and I still like some sun if I’m near the sea or a pool but we are waterless at the nursery unless you count the pond and I’m not going for a dip in there.

There were some flying ants in the polytunnel this morning so I squirted them and seemed to get quite a lot. They stopped coming out of the hole for the time being, I’ll check again tomorrow.

We had a few visitors for the garden today who were all very complimentary. The roses with their wonderful scents are all looking at their best. Rosa Seagull, on one of the pergolas, is in full flower, I’ve never seen it looking so good.

A few weeks ago I dug out a patch of Stachys byzantinus because there was a lot of couch grass mixed in with it. I replanted some of the stachys plus some Aster horizontalis and a different stachys called thunbergii which has deep wine coloured flowers. They are growing really well so it was well worth doing.
