Blue skies, light winds and real warmth from the sun……..it must be spring at last. I was able to do a lot of spraying of all the pernicious weeds including thistles, dandelions and perennial rose-bay willow herb. It was very satisfying to get so much done, there’s no way I could control the weeds without the use of ‘Round-up’.

I’ve been pondering about how best to clear couch grass which has gradually infested some Stachys byzantinus, in fact its been getting worse over the last two or three years. Reluctantly it seems the only way to sort it out is to dig it up and pain-stakingly remove all the roots and then re-plant it. So I’ve made a start. But its slow work, the heavy clay clings to the roots and great clods of soil need prising off. maybe I’ll get Terry, my volunteer, to help when he comes tomorrow morning.
