Its amazing how quickly the plants have responded to having a few days of sun and warmth. The rate of growth is quite rapid and, suddenly there are plenty of flowers. The downside is that we’ve also had strong winds and have had some difficulty keeping all the plants from drying out. When they do dry out the compost shrinks and the pot needs to be dunked in a tank or bucket until it has re-hydrated. Its hard to believe that just a week ago we were all wearing jumpers and boots and had forgotton what the sun felt like. Everyone seems so much happier when they get some sunlight and its certainly more conducive for gardeners to spend time tending their plots.
It was very busy at the nursery today. Inbetween serving customers I have spent time getting plants ready for the National Trust properties which Philip will deliver later in the week. I must admit to feeling rather tired after a long day…..I got to work at 7.30 so I could do some potting before it got too hot. By mid-morning the temperature in the polytunnel was in the high 30s. Just about managable if one is on holiday with the sea or a pool to dip into to cool off but not when trying to work.
