Today I feel very privileged to have seen two separate, rare events. The first was while I was cooling off in the shade of the willow hedge (so I was fairly well hidden). I heard a green woodpecker calling and then saw 2 on the telegraph pole. One of them kept calling and there was a reply from a different place, eventually a young woodpecker landed on the fence just behind me and stayed there for about 5 minutes. That one flew off but next time I looked at the pole there were 3 adult birds. I think they must have been there for 10 or 15 minutes. It was magical to be able to see them so closely. I would have taken a photo but I would have disturbed them so just sat and enjoyed watching.
Later this afternoon we saw a red kite fly over Bridge Nursery. Its the first one I’ve seen in Warwickshire although some years ago Philip said he had seen one but I didn’t believe him, woops.
There were also some buzzards flying overhead on thermals but that is a more common sight.
We only saw one customer though, perhaps they are becoming a rare sight!!
