I got the watering done then decided I must cut the seed heads from Geranium pratense ‘Mrs Kendall Clark’ before it seeds all over the place. I soon filled a wheelbarrow with weeds etc. But while I was in the garden I could see how stressed some plants are already. One fern looked like it had dried out, some echineaceas are shrivelling as are rudbeckias. It was really too hot to comfortably stand and dead head the roses. We don’t water the garden, it would take too long and we are on a water meter and we’re stingy so the plants have to cope which means they start to look like shrunken old men. It will get to the stage when I avoid going in the garden because its too distressing to see. This is all so maddening…..There are always extremes in the weather and it limits what can be done. Certainly there is no chance of planting anything now, quite what people are doing with the plants they buy I do not know.
